The biggest untold story of 2020 is that Moderna took just 48 hours in Jan to develop a 95% effective vaccine. It then took 11 months for vaccinations to begin — largely because of huge regulatory burdens. Millions have died as a result. We cannot ever wait this long again.

Moderna can develop and manufacture a vaccine within weeks of sequencing a new virus. Now the method has been proven safe and effective, regulatory barriers must be removed and manufacturing prepared so there are never any delays in future. We can prevent pandemics.

Just to clarify, as there’s either misunderstanding or a lot of bad faith interpretations of these tweets. I’m not saying we should release vaccines without any testing. I’m saying it will be possible to do much faster in future and save more lives.

We used to think vaccines had to take years, now we know it can take 11 months. Why shouldn’t we try to make the process go even faster? Prepared and pre-tested technology, manufacturing and logistics investment, challenge trials, and less red tape. It’s all possible.

Common sense isn't that common, Matthew. You know that. For each of us who agree with you, 1,000 will disagree - and aside from shouting you down on the twitter dunghill, they're embedded everywhere in bureaucracy.

Tell me then, oh wise man. Name exactly one piece of 'red tape' that should be removed. Don't speak in generalities! State *specifically* what should be changed. "GO FASTER" is not a concrete suggestion.

Some thoughts about getting better prepared on the vaccine front for the next pandemic. What I propose might be naïve and not feasible in the end, but we need to start thinking and strategizing now. https://www.cell.com/med/fulltext/S2666-6340(20)30027-1 …

So, Matt, if one woman can gestate an embryo to full term in 38 weeks, shouldn’t 38 women be able to do it in one week?

In what way did regulation hinder the process in excess of what was necessary to ensure safety and efficacy? 11 months was remarkably fast for the approvals; do you have any basis for suggesting it could have been shorter?

There is no bad faith interpretation, all of these things were considered & implemented to the point that we have a vaccine available to us within this time for *safe* use on human beings. Just because lives were lost doesn't mean it's ok to risk others for an unsafe solution.
