My suggestion is to bind a hotkey for keying mode toggling. That way you can easily set either a fullbody, bodypart or selection. Sped up my keyframing a lot!
Spent the last 30 minutes frustrated that MotionBuilder sees all the fingers on a hand as one 'body part,' making it difficult to easily offset keys... until I found the manipulate 'selection' button. The one right next to the 'body part' button.pic.twitter.com/SM03nj8PAi

Oooooh sorry. Yeah, there's 3 different keying modes: Full Body, Body Part, and Selection. I have them hotkeyed to the 1,2, and 3 keys respectively cause I switch between them so much.

Having hot keys seems like a must. Its a handy feature though.
