Question for game animators: where do you prefer having your walk and run cycles start/loop? At ground contact? Passing position? And why do you prefer it?

Passing! If you're blending from an idle, starting with passing will give the impression of a push-off for free, especially useful if there's no time budgeted for authored transitions like that

This is the answer right here. Though as others have mentioned I will still author from contact but export from passing.
