The most stressful thing about apt hunting in NYC for me is that there isn't time to think. A nice place is gone the next day. But then you're left w/ doubt and "should I have waited on something better" thoughts after you do sign for a place. Also ALL landlords are shady AF.

Sounds a lot like many areas of NYC (not all). If you start your search a month or more before your expected move in date it's mostly lux buildings. For anything non-lux all move-in dates are for 1 to 4 weeks in advance at most. Turnaround is super quick and stressful.

Yeah we went through the apt gauntlet, the range b/t livable and affordable is astounding and I am still baffled how NYers do it. We ended up finding a small house and jumped on it. I didn't even get to tour it, to my hubby I was like "Will the bed fit in the bedroom? OK? GO!"
