It's no story tool from motion builder, but it is quite handy to chop stuff together.
If Maya's Time Editor worked with layers I'd use it more often. However, now that I have a better understanding of it, it is super useful for hacking together quick prototype animations.

Actually I think it does have Layers - you have to do it in the Time Editor clip, rather than the normal Layers

It has its own layers that are separate. It doesn't accept making new clips from animations that have layers already though. I have to bake down sadly.

It is pretty darn powerful, still doesn't quite hit MoBu's story mode, but it's real close. A hugely powerful tool for my mocap workflow though!

Yeah, the relocator can be pretty cool. We have a long list of stuff we want to do to it but I'm forcing the team to focus on a few things and do them right vs doing 100 things at the same time. We'll get to the TE again.... Got some sweet graph editor stuff coming first.
