I used to hate splining but when I do blockouts now I switch back and forth from spline to clamped. Gives me a good idea of the curves I'll have to handle later on and lets me get in a good sense of timing early. Splocking.

Stepped keys are liars. I tend to keep my animation in spline and use the Maya timeline’s “Preview Stepped” for clarity early on.
