Overheard someone pronounce "tortilla" with an L sound. is that common in other parts of the country? I've never heard this before in SF or LA.

I'm from Pennsylvania originally and I've never heard either word pronounced with the L sound. Maybe just your grandmother. No getting away from the "wooder" though.

Visiting family in Erie, we heard someone order “pee-co day gah-lo” and couldn’t help but look and shake our heads. Pretty sure it happens anywhere Spanish isn’t often spoken tho, not specifically a PA thing.
