Using Maya layers to maintain all assets of a first-person suite in a single file is a smart system but gets a little slow. After working in MoBu for a few months I find its Take system would be great as a replacement. I know something akin to Story is in Maya 18 but are Takes?

I used to do this in the time editor but with really simple rigs and animations. unsure of performance https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018/ENU/Maya-Animation/files/GUID-A5F13987-036D-42E3-BF66-EA312C045EBA-htm.html?v=2018&st=takes …

Seems worth investigating.

IIRC there was a GDC talk this past year on the anim of Mario: Rabbids that had Maya takes...it looked awesome

Hmm, I'll have to track that talk down.

I love having takes for animation sets. It's nice to have everything in one place but still segmented.
