Admittedly, I don't know anything about rendering techniques. I like how they are achieving DOF. The chromatic aberration in the bg and the split image of Miles in the fg is really cool. All that comic print texture. Also like how Peter looks painted. (and that finger pose!)pic.twitter.com/bca2g8sT65

I‘ve been looking at the chromatic aberration too. As a still frame I find it a little distracting, like I should be wearing 3D glasses. But I think it works in motion. Either way, definitely gives it a comic book color separation vibe.

There are a couple shots where its so pronounced that it definitely feels like you need 3D glasses. I can see it being a problem depending on how many of these shots there are. Overall I love the style and, knowing nothing about Miles, the story looks fun.pic.twitter.com/mJevhOdvuG

I’m willing to go along with it. Clearly it’s a very specific direction call that someone put a lot of thought and tech behind. Plus we’re all looking at it on tiny screens. The film looks so damn fresh! For real! Much needed jolt for CG animation.

Agree! Its nice to see an attempt at some fresh takes. It seems all the choices, from the color separation to the animation not always being on 1s, were to give it a comic book feel?

Yep. Flattens it, and it all contributes to it having a 2D feel that’s not concerned with realism. Not much in the way of motion blur on inbetweens either. Works really well. Breaks conventions and default mindset.
