If this is true, biases in public comments are less troubling, as committees will sort it all out in the end. If committees are swayed by enthusiastic comments that overwhelmingly favor expanding coverage, results are more concerning.

Insightful commentary by on new study. A lot turns on notion that "Medicaid policy committees are skilled at aggregating information" and able to "judiciously weigh reporting from various interest groups as they apply rigorous standards of evidence"

Last summer I wrote about the case for extending Sunshine Act reporting requirements to cover industry payments to patient orgs. At the time Sen. McCaskill had just proposed legislation to that effect. Interesting to see issue getting traction again.

Worth emphasizing, Collins got in trouble for insider trading. Had he stuck with *merely* being a board member and primary investor in a biotech company while crafting health care legislation on E&C Committee, he wouldn’t have broken any Congressional ethics rules.

Finally took the time to re-watch Ian Tannock's Allen Lichter Award Lecture. In particular, I wanted to accurately quote the following statement: "Disclosure of a conflict is not enough. We need to stop having these conflicts." 1/

So it's possible for someone to look over a lot of the website and take the quiz referenced in the article without ever encountering the sponsorship information. This kind of non-transparent transparency is pretty common for disease awareness campaigns.

Also worth noting how this is disclosed. The Right to Desire website does acknowledge that the campaign is funded by Sprout, but to see the information you've got to click on the FAQ page and scroll a little ways down.

Perhaps everyone understands what's going on, but I think it's worth stating explicitly that the "Right to Desire" campaign is sponsored by Sprout Pharmaceuticals.
