      my signal messages are almost entirely People Who Are Good At Compilers realising that yesteryear's cryptographers were being bullshit gatekeepers when they said "don't roll your own crypto" and that they have Exactly The Skillset for optimising crypto, and i am 100% here for it

      If “rolling crypto” is defined as resisting side channel attacks on primitives, yes. This wasn’t something too many people cared very much about. Today, of course, sophisticated side channel key extraction (without total system compromise) happens every day in the wild ;)

          Are voltage/heat/acoustic side channels in the wild or still just in the lab? It seems like if those attacks are feasible it might be possible to extract a key with javascript running inside a browser sandbox on the same CPU as the signer.
