People who say we need to move past the Iraq war are wrong. When you really consider the scope of the disaster -- to the region, to its people, to our politics, to our military, and more -- we have barely started to talk about it.

Folks, the excellent @blowbackpod is here to remind you that the Iraq war was the project of multiple administrations and a foreign policy establishment that remains intact and unaccountable. Great work from @deep_beige and @nkulw

I mean "immiserate the country with sanctions while wildly inflating the threat the regime actually poses while of course proclaiming endless love for its suffering people" is literally the same play they're running on Iran right now.

the appropriate thing to do is wait 5 decades for the sanitised Ken Burns documentary

Many of those people also need to move beyond viewing it primarily or exclusively through the lens of intelligence failure. That was just one of many points of failure. Even if it proved right, there were lots of reasons it was a bad strategic move.

And the intelligence was reported with “low confidence.”

The Afghan war brought us the Taliban and the Iraq war brought us ISIS. Trump's immigration policies at the southern border will create a South American version for sure and who knows that will come out of a war with Iran. Expect another group to rise and vow to kill Americans.

Trump's willingness to call Iraq a mistake is a key reason the R base liked him initially, imo. Other candidates wouldn't say it. That they took his "stupid wars" to mean he'd not start one is precisely what's wrong w/R base. They don't get they're always lied to, incl. Trump.

For example, think of the refugee crisis that is changing European politics and not in a good way.

Yep! We wouldn't have had the resurgence of opportunistic neo-fascist politics in Europe without the successive refugee crises kicked off by the Iraq war.
