[Jacob Wohl voice] I’m overhearing Iowans talking about politics at this Emmetsburg restaurant, and they’re saying they consume journalism from a diversity of news sources to get different perspectives on political developments

My first caucus back in 2004, I had to go head-to-head with my middle school civics teacher! It was amazing. Very personal & pretty fun experience.

  3. Man. Caucusing is super personal and very public. Here’s a Joe Biden supporter in Waukee precinct 1 making her case to her fellow caucus-goers:

THREAD: for the first time ever, a mosque is hosting a presidential caucus in Iowa. This is historic.

  6. Here’s Waukee precinct 6, which is in a small cafeteria in the same building as precinct 1..... and it’s packed! The room is already getting really warm, and there’s still a line of caucusgoers registering to get in.

  7. At first glance, it looks like Waukee 1 is going to be pretty competitive: there are decent-sized groups here for Warren, Biden, Sanders, Buttigieg, Klobuchar and Yang.

  8. And here’s the wildest part of the caucus system, to me: Here’s the group of undecided voters, sitting beneath the “uncommitted” sign, who are waiting to be persuaded by the various campaigns to caucus for their candidates.

  9. Waukee precinct 1’s caucus is being held in a gym, and the pre-committed caucusgoers who are arriving gather around little signs for their candidate in different parts of the gym. Here’s Klobuchar, Warren, Buttigieg, Sanders:

  10. It’s almost caucus time! I’m in Waukee, Iowa, an outer western suburb of Des Moines. This site has two different precincts caucusing in the building — Waukee 1 and Waukee 6. (I’m hoping I can hop between and report from both.)

It's a sign of how crazy the news cycle is right now that the United States three days ago barred immigration from the largest economy in Africa--a quarter of the continent's population is now barred from the US--and almost nobody is talking about it.
