    The flag atop the is flying at half-staff to honor our colleagues. [Until two weeks ago, both papers were pat of the tronc/Tribune newspaper family.] I hope other newspapers will follow suit at their offices.

    Our colleagues in WaPo’s union are also asking questions about pay equity in their newsroom. An important issue if we’re going to build healthier newsrooms.

    NEW:The Washington Post, which adopted the "Democracy Dies in Darkness" slogan in 2017, is apparently not being transparent about an alleged gender/race pay gap. A study pointed to newsroom pay disparity, but management refuses to acknowledge any issue.

    My 5-yr-old client can’t tell me what country she is from. We prepare her case by drawing pictures with crayons of the gang members that would wait outside her school. Sometimes she wants to draw ice cream cones and hearts instead. She is in deportation proceedings alone.

    So the man who murdered reporters did so because the newspaper had reported on his intense harassment and online stalking and threatening of a woman and he was angry at the paper for telling her story. Wow.

    New: The Capital Gazette suspect, Jarrod W. Ramos, had harassed the newspaper's journalists for years. I talked to the newspaper's former publisher about Ramos. He was horrified.
