Don’t have relevant experience? Get some. I was a delivery driver, then a cook, then bartender, then law school. I begged for an unpaid internship at a game studio that led me on this path. I never had four digits in my bank account most of my life. Leave your excuses elsewhere.

Grades matter, but becoming a shut-in with no social skills to attain that 4.0 will hurt you in the long run (many might disagree with this - it depends on the job). Google for events near you in your desired field and network your butt off. Don’t know anyone? Now you do.

Be cognizant on your school and adapt your strategy as a result. Harvard opens doors, yours might not. That just means you need to network harder and be that much better. Harvard proves you were great in high school. Prove to me you’re great now.

When writing a cover letter, think about the job you’re applying for. What have they heard six thousand times already? If you’re applying to my firm, I know you’re a gamer. I don’t need your gaming resume. Tell me something unique about you that is interesting!

For example, have you taught yourself a useful skill? One of my former interns taught himself Spanish and helped translate an esports page. Another studies up on privacy law and could speak intelligently about it. Most folks have something even if you don’t realize it. Think!

Be interesting, but not silly. Yes I joke on here constantly, but when hiring you also have to impress the more serious partners (plus I have enough comedians that work here). Show your personality, but remember you’re trying to get a professional job, not frontpage reddit.

Last but not least, ask the people who stood out among literally thousands of others and now have great careers/opportunities: @Phasmius_Law

It’s different paths. I’d suggest listening most closely to the folks who are doing the thing you want to do.

Yup! Form of a resume is ultimately up to taste of a person - if someone tells you the right way to do a resume is monolithic, I question their judgment. In my personal experience, I’ve found network to be king over all else.
