I don’t question the idea behind being API first (we did this as well). I am however questioning if there is a case of someone from the outside who improved the UX on a project they didn’t own.

Perhaps Transport for London is a good example. Offering up real time data so that others like Citymapper can create brilliant user interfaces...?
