Why is blockchain voting a dumb idea? Glad you asked. For starters: - It doesn't solve any problems civil elections actually have. - It's basically incompatible with "software independence", considered an essential property - It can make ballot secrecy difficult or impossible.

No matter how much you love this particular data structure, and no matter how much it might seem at first like it's "perfect" for it, civil voting just isn't a good application for blockchain

Speculation: the the vast majority of people advocating for blockchain-based election systems have a lot more experience and investment in the "blockchain" part than the "election" part.

A blog post on this from you would be very enlightening and help me understand and explain in my local community some of the *specific* technical issues with blockchain voting - currently many still think blockchains ‘make trust’ and other super vague high level ideas...

I found the time to write up my thoughts on Blockchain and Voting. TLDR: I don't think there's much use for blockchain in voting because verifiable secret tallies and voter eligibility are not solved by a distributed ledger. https://benlog.com/2017/12/28/blockchain-and-voting/ …

What’s your opinion on using it for blockchain-native activities, like token-curated registries?

That sounds like an application that doesn't have nearly as many requirements as civil voting.
