    So I have some news. After 14 amazing years at Penn, I'm moving to a unique new gig at Georgetown. Starting this semester, I'll be the McDevitt Chair of Computer Science and Law, where I'll focus on interdisciplinary research and teaching that bridges CS and law/public policy.

    I have no idea what specifically went wrong in Iowa, though it seems unlikely, given the records kept at each precinct, that it will affect the final official outcome. The big risk is that disruptions and uncertainty like this will be exploited to discourage people from voting.

    I'm really feeling uncomfortable with all of this imagery (on TV as well) identifying whom individual voters support. The Iowa caucus was never democratic, but in the facial recognition age it is now verging on dangerous.

    My mom didn’t “deserve” to get late stage lung cancer, but that had nothing to so with her living a life of not being a divisive talk radio windbag. Rush Limbaugh, a man deserving of much criticism, doesn’t deserve it either - no one does. My reaction to this news is Fuck Cancer.

    What you might see as "opposition to fixing them" is, in my experience, far more often than not more a matter of local officials just trying to run an upcoming election with extremely limited resources. And I feel for them. Fixing problems requires resources.

    Yes, there are serious vulnerabilities in voting machines (as well as election management systems). Yes, we should fix them, urgently. No, their existence is not evidence that the entire system is "rigged". Go vote.
