This is a well-written post, but I would add that this sort of post is precisely why iPad fans feel compelled to remind folks that they do valuable work for them. “Your anecdotal evidence is junk but my anecdotal existence is correct” is a bit 🤷‍♂️ http://nubero.ch/blog/005/ pic.twitter.com/N97hfGEsPD

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. On the one hand, it can be true that there are iPad enthusiasts for whom the device fits nearly perfectly into their workflow, and also that, for a lot of people, that paradigm just doesn’t work.

I think a lot of the friction comes from the implication from the iPadosphere that an iPad as a primary device is The Way of The Future, when to the rest of us that just sounds like the year of Linux on the desktop.

I get that feeling, but I feel like the attitude towards people who think the iPad is great is very dismissive (see also the Verge editor who said people who do work on iPad do “f*** all work”), so you get stronger reactions.

That group is just as annoying, lol. It’s possible to acknowledge that an iPad only workflow isn’t possible for many people and also acknowledge that it can fit in as a component. There are several people at my office that use them mainly for note taking and it’s great at that.

It’s not much different than the “are mobile games real games” argument. One group is so excited about a new method that they give up the other, and another group feels threatened that means that the way they want to do things is on the way out. And most people are in between.

And then the whole “I’m sure everyone will now tell me that they do valuable work on an iPad” means the author can’t be wrong. This is what happens when you argue for “right” and “wrong” in a “whatever fits” argument.

I wouldn’t even say it’s well written. There are a billion problems with this post, not the least of which is how smug and condescending the tone is. And they doesn’t even mention Federico by name!

iOS and Android is sure post pc era. In fact the smartphone is the primary computing device of the population and they only get a pc or Mac for niche task at work, or hard core gaming. For the typical use iOS and Android is actually the real MVPs of computing era.
