In this article from 2000, I am quoted saying: “I would like to be a university professor, either in the Air Force, or out." Today, I am excited to announce that I've accepted a tenure track faculty position in the Department of Defense Analysis at the Naval Postgraduate School.

A coyote and a badger use a culvert as a wildlife crossing to pass under a busy California highway together. Coyotes and badgers are known to hunt together. 🎥Peninsula Open Space Trust

I swear we're serious scientists. Some of us are definitely not just cute animals in labcoats. Apply and come see for yourself!

While I’m all for such meta-analyses to reveal general insights, please note that 👏🏽 R0 is a measure of transmission *in a particular population* 👏🏽 so a disease cannot be associated with a single R0. R0 ~ pathogen infectiousness * population contact patterns

There is no "how to" manual on conducting long-term ethical fieldwork with human subjects. There are many anecdotes, blogs and other useful info sources, but we wish to systematically understand variability across fieldsites and researchers. Help open this black box.

    6) Some modeling assumptions are more useful for understanding genetic evolution and some are more useful for cultural evolution. E.g., for some questions, incorporating group structure into a model seems more useful for understanding cultural evolution than genetic evolution.

    5) When we talk of "levels of selection", "group selection", "adaptations", etc., what we are really talking about is what sort of modeling assumptions are useful, not about what is true. Not "is group selection real" but "is considering groups useful."

    4) Both contribute to phenotype. There is no such thing as a "cultural phenotype" vs a "genetic phenotype."

My six cents on below discussion: 1) "Evolution" just means change over time 2) "Selection" specifies that the change is due to selection 3) Cultural evolution and genetic evolution are both natural processes and they are both biological processes

Who are the up-and-coming cultural evolution modelers that I should be suggesting as substitute reviewers so is not the same six or seven of us suggesting each other all the time?

Last time I went to the movie theater all five movie posters I saw were for action movies featuring female leads (holding weapons). Wonder Woman, Black Widow, Mulan, Star Wars, Birds of Prey.

A really daft paragraph. Imagine society discriminates against (say) short people. Then as height has a genetic basis, so will discrimination, and so discrimination will built into PGS of traits affected by discrimination.

so asks ""As matters stand, many social scientists believe that the environment interacts in endlessly complicated ways with genes. Is that true?"...um yes, it is.

Considering Charles Murray's new book comes out tomorrow it's good timing that this little side-project I took on (in the middle of my comprehsensive exams!) just came out.
