If you find the game too fast paced? Play it at 80% speed. Getting frustrated from the time limit of holding onto walls? Turn on infinite stamina. Having trouble managing your air dashes? Give yourself some extra.

Lots of games would benefit greatly from letting players tailor their own difficulty, removing or toning down the parts of the game that they specifically have trouble with or don't enjoy.

Imagine being able to disable escort missions in an RPG. Or give yourself infinite ammo in a shooter. Or turn off combat entirely like some games are experimenting with now in a "story-only mode".

Anyone helpfully pointing out to me that "these are just cheat codes" is missing the important context that _these are not framed as cheating_. It's a totally valid way to play and beat the game. That framing makes a HUGE difference.

Ok straight off the top of my head, here's some Dark Souls Assist Mode options: - Infinite Stamina - Don't lose souls on death - Configurable Estus Flask charges - Straight Up Invincibility

Was really interesting to see this in the same press release as the Donkey Kong "Funky Mode". Both appear to try and make games more accessible.

Though the same release also showed the Dark Souls remaster on Switch, which seemed an odd juxtaposition.
