Best and DeVries claim to have witnessed incriminating screenshots from the group, but did not specify any policy that had been enacted as a result of the alleged OMA violations.
The investigation comes less than a month before two members of the council are up for re-election, while Mayor Edna DeVries has filed to run for Borough Mayor in November.
The investigation was called for by a member of the public earlier this month, which prompted Councilman Richard Best moved to direct the city manager to conduct at the August 24 meeting following an executive session that was not open to the public. There was no vote taken.
The City Manager signed a contract with Keene & Currall P.P.C., out of Ketchikan to conduct the investigation, pending council approval of IM 21-005 which is currently part of the consent agenda.
The Palmer city council will investigate if members of the council committed any violations within the Facebook group Mat-Su Moms for Social Justice, though two other groups currently have greater than three council members.
Mat-Su Borough Assemblyman Mokie Tew’s Resolution 21-091 to allow a $10 fee for “level pickup trucks” to dump trash at the Central Landfill and transfer sites fails 3-4.
Mayor Vern Halter voted ‘no’ to break a 3-3 tie vote with Assemblyman Rob Yundt absent.

OR 21-076, a bond package with 15 road projects for $61,135,000 passed the Assembly 6-1 and will appear on the November ballot before MSB voters.
George McKee was the sole ‘no’ vote.

Miller, among many in the crowd tonight, are supporting DeVries’ run for the office of Borough Mayor.
There are 40 members of the public at Palmer City Hall for the Council meeting.
There were 31 in attendance for the 6:00 joint meeting with the Board of Economic Development.
