    I only just realized that Hangzhou is now in a state of lockdown. Given that is one of China's most beautiful cities that is really depressing. It appears that Zhejiang province may be heading for a breakout, where local authorities have also been criticized for their response

    I highly recommend this conference. Interesting and talented presenters, and a seating format that really allows one to meet people and interact with them. Great especially if you are new to R.

    So far coronavirus is less lethal than the flu, which kills 10-25,000 Americans a year. Yet airlines suspend routes, countries bar people traveling from China. What they are responding to in part is the lack of trust, transparency, and accountability in China's system.

    Really good point. An instance of people hastily picking up on the latest trendy thing.

    Am I the only one who’s irked by academic writing advice of “telling a story with your data”? Writing fanfiction about our data is what got us into the reproducibility crisis in the first place. I’d rather have a less compelling narrative than a flowery account of half-truths.

    I adore teaching intro to quant methods No really I do It is SO BORING if taught mechanically (see: Stat 100, my required stats class as an undergrad) It is SO COOL if taught well (see: API 202, my required stats class as a master's student in policy)
