We already have lots of footguns in this same category, pretty much infinite now with shared array buffers. I'd rather we find a solution than try to ignore all the other ways to do this.

I still don't believe it even slightly, I think not having leads to worse footguns as people need to async-function *everything* if they want to depend on something that isn't importable synchronously (e.g. a text file/wasm/json/etc).
