the first one compresses smaller with gzip. Are you minifying to reduce the network fetch, or some other reason?

My use case is https://github.com/mathiasbynens/node-unicode-data/issues/27 …, i.e. an npm module containing data that is purely used at build time. Trying to save HD space.
