💡 In source code, stop using the old rgb()/hsl() CSS color syntax with commas. Get used to the modern comma-free CSS color syntax, supported in all modern browsers. Why? Upcoming new features such as lab(), lch(), and color() use the same syntax (and don’t work with commas).pic.twitter.com/CNVm1PeA7u

      Instead of `rgba(0, 128, 255, 0.5)`, use `rgb(0 128 255 / 50%)`.

But why? For zero cost one just supports older browsers without doing absolutely no harm for new ones.

This is like saying “Why bother using CSS variables? Just hardcode the values and it works everywhere”. source code ≠ code you ship to users If you want to support older browsers, you can still use the new syntax and transpile down.

Nope, this is not like using CSS Variable - it's impossible to have some scenarios without CSS Variables. In this particular case something that is supported perfectly well in old and new browsers is suggested not to be used just because there exist alternative syntax.

It’s impossible to use wide-gamut colors in CSS without the new syntax.

So use the new syntax if you need the new festure. Why should I adopt new syntax to enable a feature I don't need while also adding another layer to my workflow (PostCSS)?

All I’m saying is that if you don’t want to end up with two distinct notations in your code once you start using wide-gamut colors or other future CSS features, you might want to switch to the new syntax. If that’s not a concern you have, then do whatever you want. 👍🏻

correct me if I'm wrong but wide-gamut is not something that will be used in rgb an and hsl but rather in a separate construct. But ok, whatever. Just like Nadella said we are the industry that doesn't value tradition. I see your point. Thank you for responding!

Correct, it would be a separate construct such as lab() or lch() or color(…). But IMHO it seems weird to have code that mixes the two types of syntax when you can choose to use unified syntax.

Why are commas not used in the new syntax? Seems completely arbitrary from the outside, but presumably there is some reason commas could not be used.
