I have no idea what you’re on about, Jake.pic.twitter.com/Ah8zIVU2IV
Do you Promise this will make it to stable? I presume noone can do any advanced node tostringing to get the resolved state of a promise that this will break in node apps?
That Promise is still pending, I’m afraid. Fingers crossed it sticks! And no, this change cannot be observed in JavaScript code, although it does affect the values returned over the Inspector protocol.
Is this inspector black magic something normal Devs can use? So toString results in 1 string, but inspector preview results in something else?
Sure, you can use it to build stuff, just not on the web: https://v8.dev/docs/inspector @ChromeDevTools uses it to tell @v8js to execute JavaScript whenever you enter anything on the Console, for example.
Ahh, I might have asked the wrong question. I thought it would be something like { [Symbol.inspect]() { return blar; } } in the JS
I see. There's nothing specifically for "inspection" in the language (which IMHO is good; DevTools should be able to experiment with different approaches without it requiring spec changes). The closest thing would be Symbol.toStringTag.
No problem. I will leave it. Thank you for the clarity.
