Puppeteer v2.1.0 is out! 🔥 ➡️ Chromium 80 ➡️ puppeteer.launch({product: 'firefox'}) Puppeteer can now talk to a real, unpatched Firefox binary. You no longer need to install puppeteer-firefox separately! https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/releases/tag/v2.1.0 …pic.twitter.com/Kw5UZ35gHo

`puppeteer.launch` now accepts a `product` option which can be set to `'firefox'`.

Do you know the future of puppeteer now that the team is also working on Playwright?

Note that you’re talking about two different teams here. From the Google side, we’re continuing to invest in Puppeteer, and are maintaining the project in collaboration with other browser vendors (cfr. recent Mozilla contributions).

I was under the impression that the Playwright team was the same one that built Puppeteer 🤔

There is no contradiction. The team who started Puppeteer left Google to build Playwright at Microsoft.

"We are the same team that originally built Puppeteer at Google". I am confused. I thought it was the same team

The latest version of Playwright README includes: "We are the same team that originally built Puppeteer at Google, but has since then moved on."

That's a good clarify that can be included into puppeteer README 🙂

So the original team left Google? Or they are still at Google? Or did they got “outsourced” to MS to create Playwright? It’s so confusing 😔

The original team left Google to go and work at Microsoft. Google has nothing to do with Playwright.

Playwright is not developed in collaboration with browser vendors? What is story behind it basically? I thought it's Puppeteer successor.

Puppeteer is alive and well. Playwright is being developed by a different team at Microsoft.
