Note that you’re talking about two different teams here. From the Google side, we’re continuing to invest in Puppeteer, and are maintaining the project in collaboration with other browser vendors (cfr. recent Mozilla contributions).

What’s the plan for supporting Safari, if there’s any?

This is blocked on work on Safari exposing more functionality than is currently accessible through WebDriver. The work that has been done on Firefox will likely form the basis for a future standardised protocol, which it is hoped Apple will in future ship with Safari.
