Parsing JSON is inherently less complex compared to JavaScript, so you can assume this holds true in all JavaScript engines.
This claim seems insufficiently justified to me: The JSON.parse version still needs to parse the string literal. That may be fast, but it’s not guaranteed to be, and it’s not free.
We tested this and found the opposite (JS Literal faster than JSON parse) in real browsers when parsing a pretty big react state. I wonder if there are edges where this doesn’t hold, or if it’s a browser + v8 version thing...
