It was really great to work with @_developit 👍 We made some quite interesting perf findings along the way, like that first storing JSON.stringify in a variable boosted performance >20% - at least when run with Node.js v11.4.0 + MacOS 10.14.2 on a Tuesday.https://twitter.com/_developit/status/1075859975623331843 …

htm has its own performance tests that @_developit set up.

You are using Jest to measure performance right there: https://github.com/developit/htm/blob/master/test/perf.test.mjs … I will check ESbench

It seems that if I remove the test harness around the benchmark and run it as-is the performance difference disappears. /cc @mathias

🧐 Benchmarking JS in JS is super hard. Always best to just run the code you want to measure (without any runner/skeleton code around it) and use chrome:tracing, RuntimeCallStats, or (if possible) d8 directly.

d8 is V8’s command-line “debug aid”: https://v8.dev/docs/d8  To quickly grab a d8 binary without having to check out the repo and compile from source, use jsvu:https://github.com/GoogleChromeLabs/jsvu …
