As of today, eligible datasets hosted on will feature a report identifying opt outs and how to honor them. I think that's a big deal.

It's a real joy to announce our @huggingface partnership🙂 From today, eligible datasets hosted on Hugging Face will show a data report powered by our API, informing model trainers what data has been opted out and how to remove it. Another big step towards consenting training!

Tbf an authority declared it over last week Still, doesn’t feel quite as monumental as one would have expected given its significance

Will take this as a “covid is over” cue Odd to live through a pandemic and not have any authority be like “it’s over”. No party or anything. Also odd Apple is the closest to playing this role for me

Singing through 50k voices
Quote Tweet
From 2018-2019 I would hold call and response AI training ceremonies at all my concerts I trained an AI model on 50-100k consenting audience voices, this is what it sounds like! If you contributed your voice, thank you! 🧫

this is not perfect, but is a feasible expectation we are building for. Our API harmonizes consent requests from many sources, updated to the day of training, and is very simple to use.

The complicated matter of accounting for all of the copyrighted material in training data is a tricky one as identified. However a bare minimum requirement could be proof that all opt-outs registered by creators have been observed in the training process.

the piece raises some strong questions as to how disclosure of data might be feasible in practice. I could help address one of them - Spawning opt-outs are pre-emptive, so creators don't need to know they are in a dataset to make a consent claim on those works.

Excellent overview of EU policy on AI training, with a shoutout Insisting on observance of opt-outs is a very good idea, and a prescient directive put forward by the EU copyright commission . I also support the disclosure of training data proposal in the AI act

there are a lot of laborious details to figure out, and it will be turbulent. Best thing you can do is educate yourself on the tech itself, try to ignore the most extreme opinions responding to the news. There's a premium on freaking people out.

That’s the dimension that gets overlooked - when anyone can make infinite derivative media artists will do new expressive things in response to that reality. That’s one of the things we look to artists for.

It's going to get crazy, and I trust that crazy will beat out banal. Once infinite drake is available 24 hours a day I expect the shine will wear off and be outshined by weird new shit artists are doing

At that point we’re in extremely fertile (& legally complex!) creative territory. Naturally @hollyplus_ x @hollyherndon x @matdryhurst are who to watch in this regard, but it also seems likely a wave of experimentation (bts for a few years) is about to crash on mainstream shores
