May i ask why you're using the faded squares for background? If it's just a placeholder nvm lol but if that's a background choice, why?
They’re like ‘dead pixels’ that remain after an enemy is destroyed. I’ve lightened them up a bit since this and will probably have another subtle background eventually.

Ah! Makes much more sense. I was worried they were just the design of the background. It would make distinguishing background and foreground hard. Worms battle islands made this terrible mistake lol your game already looks like a fun twinstick though!
