May i ask why you're using the faded squares for background? If it's just a placeholder nvm lol but if that's a background choice, why?

They’re like ‘dead pixels’ that remain after an enemy is destroyed. I’ve lightened them up a bit since this and will probably have another subtle background eventually.

Thanks! Definitely been working on those types of techniques lately and they really improve the response the game gives to the player if done correctly.
