Raycast down in character space a few inches or so, from body center. If you hit nothing, do some feeler casts from that point.

Then if one of those hits a surface and it's normal is within a reasonable angle to your current floor, it becomes the new floor.

Might want to do it per climbing paw eventually. Character center might look like a hovering character when edge is just off center?
