They've just been sitting here in my Steam library, taunting me.pic.twitter.com/I587hy6Y4m

I'd suggest playing Dark Souls 1 at least until you beat the bosses of the big city Anor Londo

Just realized you have the original P2Die edition. You'll wanna install the DSFix mod to at least get sensical 1080p. 60fps breaks some physics like ladder sliding, but that'll be in the same mod, too.

Oh good to know! I thought this was like an updated HD edition.

The updated edition is called Dark Souls Remastered and really does that stuff w/o a mod. It's confusing, but the original port wasn't very good, so it might still be worth it. They actually might give u a discount to upgrade...

Would it be a bad idea to just go straight to #2?

This is a viable option. Gameplay is even smoother in 3, and the story/narrative progression is there, but it's also pretty weighed down by DS history, and most importantly (to me) you lose/fastforward a lot of the aspects that make it feel like a Hero's Journey.

I agree with this. There's a whole area in DS3 that most fans online go crazy when they get to it and I was just like 'uh ok it's just another place'. But it felt accessible for a new player to the series; it's made me want to go back to the others now.
