I wish I knew what my problem with game development was. It feels like I can't just stick to a project, I have so many great prototypes but so few fully released games. I get really excited about projects and ideas and then whip them up as a proto, and then just get "bored".

But I won't blame this on industry suggestions, I know it's my fault I don't see games to completion. It's just frustrating, and even my attempts at 'small games' fail; yet I complete jam games constantly. TBH, I wish I was better at completing full games, instead of jamming.

the secret to indie gamedev enthusiasm is never ever think about money. this is art, not manufacturing! there's almost zero chance of money no matter what you make, no matter how good it is, like a play, sculpture, poem, painting, or song.

Good point; that and comparison, comparing yourself to others is really easy and really destructive most of the time.

After the high Renaissance artists at large felt the same thing. The Mannerists (successfully) rebelled against this by literally being weird. Weird colors, weird compositions, etc Stop letting the previous notions decide what kind of art is good. Hedge your bets and make stuff

U & your games should interact with non-developers. Other devs cant help but try & project their own intent onto your work where as others are more likely to engage with it on its own terms & seeing that interaction=motivation. Its why I like showing at non-dev trade shows.
