This isn't "savagery" it's fucking obnoxious, embarrassing behavior. I get why people are mad, I really do, but you can be critical without being an asshole to people who spend their lives trying to entertain you.https://twitter.com/SkillUpYT/status/1058462421956780032 …

They're almost worse because they are willing to pile on the venom without taking the mic. So pretty much screw them too. Now I'm seeing all of the replies & I realize that I've managed to stay away from the entitled, testosterone fueled nerd rage that is apparent here. It's sick

It’s sad how much hate in this industry is disguised as ‘entertainment’ or ‘being clever’. There is a prominent games ‘journalist’ youtuber that I stopped following some time ago because I felt like his good commentary was peppered throughout ‘hate/criticism is funny’.

I watched part of one of his videos the other day on a whim and I couldn’t do it. And the sad thing is knowing people like that are respected and have large fan groups because they ‘tell it like it is’ and people look up to that.

Anyways to bring it back on point, there’s a way to be objectively critical and a way to be ‘entertainment critical’ and I feel the games community in general unfortunately leans way more toward ‘smarmy entertainment critical’.

Yep. I kinda feel like it's partly due to the early success of Angry Video Game Nerd and the other angry and annoyed gamer shows.

Yeah I thought about that. At least with AVGN it's an over the top spectacle that's kind of 'known to be an act' unlike critics who are harsh on YouTube because people prefer viewing that over calmer reviews.
