48 hours is an 8-hour shift for 6 days in a week.

I still get paid hourly for 41-48, time and a half kicked in past then. Negotiate the best deal you can get. This was for work I did in aerospace engineering.

48 hours was a federal hour limit for overtime to kick in. I was working for a government contractor, so we had to abide by the same standards as federal employees got. If you can negotiate over time in less than 48hrs, do it! Those were the rules for me.
