Started the post campaign moon grind in Odyssey, currently right around 300 moons. It's kind of odd how many of those are just 'buy them through a menu'. It definitely feels like Nintendo *forced* 999 in the game.

Some kind of stockholm syndrome gamer will pretend like this is Nintendo's critique of overstuffed collectathona and AAA busywork because this design is "so obviously bad" but they'll ignore that nobody but it's critics will say it's bad. And here I am thinking, "well ok then"

Yeah, as much as Nintendo is 'hip with the latest memes all the kids like' it feels more like just plain poor design choices than a hip critique. I'd think they'd limit it to one section if they were trying to poke fun at something.

Nintendo is so big and established that even though I'm positive they're aware of critiques like this they are on another level. It's like they're some old ancient cosmic god and we're just scientists and private eyes and sexy lounge singers ever so slowly peering in going insane

For a time it seemed like their 'old ways design' was going to bite them. Though after the Switch took off I feel like a few questionable designs isn't going to hurt them. If only we could see Nintendo producing titles as an indie in today's market.

That definitely helps Nintendo's image, but Nintendo isn't indie not will it ever be counter culture. Nintendo is and always will be pop. I mean, it took then decades to have a 'black' MC and like she's a friggin squid.

I've never really thought about it but I guess they were pop back in the 80's as well, maybe just more 'underground pop'...

Although tbh I don't mind that, sometimes I like a good ol' sugary indulgent game over a gritty game of death and adult themes. Nintendo can have my money for that.

That's exactly it. Nintendo hits a sweet spot for me, because really do enjoy their cute, sugary, 'can't eat just one' games. Regardless of design choices, playing their games is joy, uncomplicated, pure & makes my brain say 'aaaaah' after playing some gore fest or fps.

It’s affected me as a developer as well. I’ve found I want to create less horror and dark things, and more cute sweet fun experiences. Maybe that’s just age though too.
