Lunch real talk: I’ve been a full time game dev for 4 months now and I feel like I’m struggling quite a lot with some of the tasks I’m doing. Some are no problem, easy! others I’m struggling with and feel like it reflects negatively on me. It’s not for lack of trying...

Don't worry, even after 25 years of gamedev you will still feel the same way! Lol I still have these thoughts often:-) the better you get the more you are able see how much you suck

-
So may I say that you officially do not suck, you ARE good at this, and progress going slow is the norm

This is good advice, it's kind of what I've been thinking of lately.

Have you talked to your boss? Getting confirmation that you are doing good goes along way. If you aren’t have them help you plan out how to hit your goals/kpis. For me knowing what’s expected and how to achieve reduces worry

I’ve definitely considered it, we’ve discussed a little but that was a little while ago. I’ve thought of different things to discuss in the future for it.

Adapting to another style of work is really tough, especially if new technology is involved. And it feels worse when all your coworkers naturally have more experience with it. These are real issues you gotta figure out, but you're certainly not alone

I wondered if I'm just not remembering what it's like to be the 'new guy'. I don't like saying 'well I'm new so I should struggle', but I also probably should acknowledge it a little.

Experience comes in lots of shapes and sizes. When I started working I got thrown into the frying pan and just did what I could, but learned a ton from it. It doesn't matter how long it takes as long as you learn from it and use it to help others solve the same problem :)
