    Tesla researchers authors NNs in python land and rewrite with a bare C++ implementation when deploying. This feels like a failure of our tooling / infrastructure.

    Our NN is initially in Python for rapid iteration, then converted to C++/C/raw metal driver code for speed (important!). Also, tons of C++/C engineers needed for vehicle control & entire rest of car. Educational background is irrelevant, but all must pass hardcore coding test.

    I recommend reading the forward I wrote for - Rust and Swift have very very very different goals, it is not just about target market, type system or syntax. In any case, I am a huge fan of Rust, its community, and many aspects of its design!

    A few years ago TensorFlow looked indomitable. Now it's on the verge of being overtaken by Pytorch. OpenAI just announced it's standardizing on Pytorch, joining the likes of Tesla, Nvidia, and FB. Google hoped TensorFlow would cement its lead in ML. It may soon be a liability.

    Always threw me for ages before I realised that '[' is just a program (technically usually a built-in, but whatever) that requires its last argument to be ']' 😆
