My heart is bursting. On the eve of my first child's birth, my dad - who's been in prison nearly my entire life - was granted clemency. He never intended harm, yet his crime devastated many families. My heart breaks for the families that can never get their loved ones back.

35 years is too long for murder. Especially for a getaway driver. 15-20 years is life. After that amount of time inside, your former life is over, the person you used to be is dead, and returning to life in society will be the most difficult portion of your punishment.

It’s not that his dad got clemency, that’s great news for him and for his family. It’s that this family crime story is the San Francisco DA’s whole raison d'etre for badly performing a job that requires prosecution and conviction.

Oh, I think all prosecutors are bastards. I'm not defending his father, either. It's the judicial system, and the prison system that I have a problem with.
