    It's honestly beyond me, this release could have been an opportunity for great, politically easy publicity for Russia, why execute it in a way that discredits the whole idea knowing how many people around the world watching? (rhetorical question)

    More from orca researchers who were not invited to observe the release today: the animals weren't fed or rested after 7 day journey. The pair may be old enough to hunt but some remaining orcas are not. That's why all should have been freed together.

    Great look back at the "Anti-Alcohol" exhibit in the Tretyakov gallery in 1929. Some fairly innocent paintings with slogans like "Radio instead of vodka!" and "Alcohol ruins precise movements" not to mention shooting aim.

    Leo Tolstoy learned to ride a bike at 67 after buying an English-made Rover bicycle. Back then you needed a license to operate one in Moscow and he passed the test even though he kept knocking women off their bikes while practicing.

    Orca researcher Tatiana Ivkovich confirms no marine mammal experts are involved with this sudden release, only fishing firms that illegally captured them. Nobody knows which two orcas were shipped out. Worrying.

    That this was clearly timed for Putin's marathon q/a is also concerning. In the past, several rare animals used for Putin's publicity purposes were harmed, according to scientists. I wrote about this several years ago:

    I only watched the first two of the six bits of this documentary, but really enjoyed it, worth watching for everyone interested in Russia and full of nostalgia for the old Runetchiki.
