I'm curious as to how teaching young girls how to skate will help empower them. I mean I'm sure educating them and helping them understand independence would be better but how does something like skating helping them?
-
it promotes activity, being able to be in complete control of their bodies and the movement of their bodies, skating helps them utilize their bodies in ways they would not, they are carving their space in the world vs having their spaced carved for them.
-
I get that part. Excercise promotes mental health. But when you are trying to empower someone you don't make them do things that already need empowerment. Skating is a fun sport but isn't that popular in India. And won't help them become independent and self sufficient.

You really should share your extensive girl empowerment experience with
@VANS_66, instead of just adding negative comments to Internet videos. I'm sure they would love to learn from you how to fix their terrible mistake of teaching girls how to skate. -
My experience isn't extensive but I hope it's substancial. I have taught young girls about technology & how they can use it to raise their voice, fight against discrimination and many other things. It's one of the important tools of survival today. They can even make money of it.
-
I'm sure we're all looking forward to hearing more about your own efforts in the near future. Just don't forget that tech skills aren't the only (or even the most important) thing that can benefit disadvantaged kids. Do try to be more interdisciplinary.
-
I wasn't talking about tech skills but rather how to use different technological tools to raise their voice and strongly project their identity. Something that skating will never do. Not in India. You don't even know what works and what doesn't work in India. I do.
