Even organics, right? Why is the food system like this?

so unless you're eating totally local and seasonally
-
So, in many places, this means eating nothing for 6 months... We've not eaten 'local' or 'seasonal' for over 15000 yrs.
-
Longer. As hunter gatherers we preserved good and carried it. It was just less food than what farming/tending animals allowed.
-
Good point!

Isn't
#science awesome? Fresh produce year round! PS many items off-gas ethylene. Ripen banana by putting it in a bag w an apple. -
But... scary science term!!! That means it can't be healthy!!!!

-
True fact: Apples have arsenic in them! Vegetables contain lead! The world is trying to kill us!!

Wow, Mashable. So we understand how fruits and veggie ripen and use that knowledge to extend availability of fresh food. And this is bad?
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Bullshit scaremongering. We've been preserving produce for centuries, with less safe practices than the cool tech described here.
-
Chlorine is cool tech???
-
Have you ever swam in a swimming pool? Chlorine is the reason you probably didn't get a gross infection. Yes, chlorine is cool tech...

Well that made me sad to start the day.
-
It's kind of scary and leaves me with a lot of questions about what we eat!
-
Ffs I am nearly 70. We stored apples all winter in a cool place, clamped roots & preserved eggs in isingglass (?) all my youth
@jayrayner1 -
My grandparents did the same with some things but I've never heard of produce lasting that long and it doesn't last long once I've bought it
-
That's because you are not storing it correctly. (In the dark - cool-not touching in the case of apples, and only store perfect specimens.
-
plus playing with the amount of Temps, humidity & O2 levels which cause the most damage isn't as easy at home.
