We've had metal spoons for years... this seems like an over engineered solution to fix a small problem.

Only required in the US. In Australia and many parts of the world, your barista puts the sugar in with a metal spoon before putting the lid on and THEN giving it to you.

Not really... that would mean we have to come up with better lids, better fitting, oor someone is bound to be splashed with the drink... that will likely use more plastic
