Elon has many plans that mostly include the privatization of public property.

For this system to work entire cities with their canalization, cables, subway (not to mention streets and buildings would have to be undermined. Why not simply keep private cars out of inner cities and invest in existing systems Fast - easy - ecological...

Because they rely on the political climate to be "ecological" and forward-thinking, for one. But yeah, those would be a start at least. Seems the climate is that cities will just sell it off to the worst private company at some point anyway though. It's happening to healthcare.

I’m on my way to Europe for a couple of weeks, looking forward to not using my car thanks to amazing public transport.

Depends on where in Europe, but yeah, it's probably quite a bit better if you're American. Over here the weather is the worst enemy of public transport (goes from about -31F to 95F), as well as poorly designed interfaces on payment systems :D Cycling is a thing in Europe too.

Amazing stuff in theory from Elon. I will say that doing this kind of contruction after a city has already been built is very difficult and very expensive.

1000s of stations in a city with 125mph speeds between them.... That's gonna be some crazy levels of acceleration and retardation there.
