He doesn't need PR stunts, his businesses are way out there anyways. I think the difference between him thinking he wished he could help and anyone else is that he has the resources to try. I don't think this kind of charity should be discouraged, could make something great

I mean they were both trying to save children from dying in a cave. What's the problem here?
-
Imagine the fire dept is extracting someone from a flaming vehicle with the jaws of life. Then Tim Cook rolls up with an IPhone duct-taped to a MacBook and starts calling the leader on his cell phone, creating a distraction. Cook only wanted to help. Problem?
-
Imagine there's a bunch of children trapped in a cave, and there's a bunch of professional divers trying to get them out. One of the divers dies, it seems like the kids might not make it out before the cave floods. You can save the kids quicker than the divers. Problem?
-
Yes. And it boils down to this: 1. Musk is too late. 2. Now is not the time to R&D a rescue vessel. 3. The rescuers themselves are not a sample group of possible users to get design inputs from. Don't distract them. 4. Don't get pissed when they call you out for distracting

And also, if you're not gonna save the kids within a few days, you should just give up and let them die, yeah.
-
But that's not what happened, is it? They were all rescued successfully, no?
-
yes, that's right, but you said he was too late. At that point they still didn't know if they would get them out, and you're saying he shouldn't have done anything. He was late, so he shouldn't have helped at all.

Mashable is on the decline. Look at your twitter stats. Sad. Hire someone new or create better content and a superior marketing strategy. Yikes.

This is such a non-story. Simply should not have been published. The man has resources and tried to use them to benefit the rescue operation. He admitted in a tweet last week that he did so publicly via twitter to help keep things coordinated.
