This is a terrible tragedy and awful end to a brutal year. It is a system failure that resulted in irreversible harm to two families. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. We will hold the man who did this accountable. We will support the families of the victims

The D.A's office (as was explained to me in the past) would negotiate some felonies down to misdemeanor if the person arrested agreed to parole. This is b/c the D.A. doesn't have the resources to bring all cases to trial. They have to focus on more serious crimes.

It’s not an option. It’s a crime. Locking up criminals is the only option. You trying to make some sense of this senseless crime only contributes to its tragic outcome. SF is a wealthy city. This should never be tolerated.

Especially in COVID when having the jail population lower is more healthy for all who live & work there. Cases are backlogged everywhere too.
