Trump's appointees are undermining San Francisco's sanctuary policy, targeting immigrants, & fueling a surge in lethal overdoses. -We need Safe consumption sites. -We need police to bring us kilos not crumbs. -We need 24/7 treatment on demand NOW.https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/12/24/da-critics-say-anti-drug-tenderloin-initiative-is-being-used-to-dodge-sanctuary-city-laws-deport-undocumented-immigrants/ …

How does arresting drug dealers fuel a surge in overdoses? I personally believe the opposite (e.g., our giving out 15,000 needles a day and releasing all the dealers leads to overdoses).

Every time you arrest a dealer their customers will just go to someone else. You can't get them all. There's too many. Attacking the supply side has never worked and it never will. It just fills the prisons and the pockets of the real drug lords which you will never find.

I hear this often but it doesn't make sense to me. From what I see, every nation on the planet arrests dealers -- and none of them have open-air drug markets like ours. I'm pretty sure we have the biggest fentanyl market in the world. And also the most relaxed laws...

No nation on the planet has ever been able to stop the supply of drugs. It's always there, everywhere. Our country is very strict if you get caught selling a large amount, but those people take precautions and police are lazy. Drug prohibition is a fool's errand, like alcohol.

The police are lucky if they catch 1 out of every 100 dealers in a certain area, and of course they have a lot of other stuff to do. That leaves plenty of others to keep selling. If supply disruptions worked prices would go up, instead they've gone down. The issue is demand.

Typical drug dealing has a 100-500% profit margin for serious street-level dealers and 1000+% profit margin for big-time dealers and up. This is cold, hard, tax free cash, that never runs out. There's always plenty of people who will take up this kind of money. $1000s in days...

We're talking about an underground economy that's over $20,000,000,000 per year just in the USA. All going into the pockets of criminals. Police departments get their own cut with asset forfeiture (often unconstitutionally). But the supply of drugs is unbelievably diversified.

This was very informative until it ended with a conspiracy theory.
